 Q.  I just purchased property in Mammoth Lakes and need to set up an account for water and/or wastewater service. How do I go about doing this?

You can download a Service Agreement Form and return this form to the District. New customers must pay a $50.00 deposit, which will be refunded to your account after one year. Be sure to include your $50.00 deposit check with your Service Agreement Form. Questions regarding the Service Agreement Form can be directed to Angie by email at aparksgreig@mcwd.dst.ca.us or by phone at 934-2596 extension 314.

 Q.  What are water and wastewater charges for?

Water and wastewater charges generally cover the operation and maintenance costs of keeping the water and wastewater systems operating properly.  These include the costs of maintaining and operating such items as the treatment system equipment; collection system pipelines; administration; and distribution pipeline, pumps, and storage tanks. Rates are posted on the website (Rates) under the customer service tab.

Q.  When am I billed for water and wastewater charges?

Meters are read by radio read on a monthly basis, generally at the end of each month. Bills are prepared and then mailed near the first of each month.

Q.  I am selling my property. Is there anything special I need to do?

Call to request a meter read on the date that escrow closes. This request can be made to Angie in accounting at 934-2596 extension 241 or by email at aparksgreig@mcwd.dst.ca.us

Q.  I just moved and have a new address. How can I update my information?

Please mark the box on your billing return statement stub and note your new information on the back of this stub. You can also email aparksgreig@mcwd.dst.ca.us with your new address.

Q.  What options do I have for paying my bill?

You can send a check to the District, but please be sure to note your account number on the check. Another option is to pay in person at the District offices located at 2315 Meridian Boulevard, across from the industrial park. Or, you can download an Automatic Draft Payment Request form and return this form to the District. You will still receive a statement each month and the amount due will be withdrawn from your bank account on or around the 20th of each month.

Q.  My water usage has gone up compared to last month for no apparent reason. What can I do?

Leaks on the customer’s side of the meter are not the responsibility of the District, so you will need to contact a plumber or your property manager. If a leak is found and repaired, you may request an adjustment to your usage charges by sending a detailed explanation of your problems and repairs. A request for adjustment can be emailed to Angie at aparksgreig@mcwd.dst.ca.us

Q.  How can I save money on my water bill?

By using less water! The District’s water rate structure rewards customers that use less water.

Q.  Can I get a map of my meter location from this District?

Yes. Please contact Stephanie Kearns at 934-2596 extension 221 to obtain a copy of your meter location map.

Q.  Do I need to winterize our irrigation system?

Yes, it is very important to blow out your in-ground irrigation system before the first freeze. The District has some information (Winterizing Tips.pdf) on how to do this, but you may want to hire a professional to perform this service.

Q.  Should I do anything before I turn on my irrigation system in the spring?

It is very important that you test your system for leaks or timer problems before turning on your irrigation system in the spring. For more information on testing for leaks, please contact your plumber.

Q.  I own a second home in Mammoth Lakes. What can I do to ensure that my property is safe and that my water systems are operating properly?

We recommend that you have a caretaker complete a thorough maintenance check of your property at least twice a month.  This can minimize your chances of getting surprised by a huge water bill at the end of the month.

Q. How do I keep my sewers fat Free?

We have both a spanish and english brochure which explains how to keep sewers Fat Free.  English.pdf or Spanish.pdf
