Summer Construction Update
Mammoth Community Water District (MCWD) staff and contractors have started on the 2025 summer construction project schedule.
In Progress:
- Water Lateral Replacements - MCWD crews are currently replacing galvanized iron pipe (GIP) laterals with modern polyethylene (PE) laterals on Hill Street. These efforts reduce leaks in our system and provide customers with improved water flow. Each construction season, the District replaces laterals in 1-2 neighborhoods across the community.
- Air Relief Valves - MCWD crews are currently modernizing air relief valves across our system. Each assembly is evaluated on a case-by-case basis and any outdated components are upgraded to current standards.
- Water Tank Rehab - Tank T-7 is currently being rehabilitated. This will extend the usable life of this critical facility.
- MCWD Campus Paving - Phase 2 is underway to complete the paving at the District’s Office and WWTP. This project is improving road conditions, drainage, and ADA accessibility.
Coming Soon:
- Fire Protection Project - In coordination with the Mammoth Lakes Fire Department and Forest Service, the District plans to add additional fire hydrants around the perimeter of town, providing additional firefighting resources along the wildland-urban interface.
- New monitoring wells will be constructed at Laurel Pond, where treated wastewater is discharged. This project has been fully permitted and will begin construction later this summer.
- Zone 5 Connection - A potable water pipeline will be constructed creating a new redundant connection to the eastern portion of Town. This pipeline will add resiliency to our distribution system and will improve water quality and fire flow capacity to the eastern portion of town.
